European legislation will make Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) mandatory on new models launched as of November 2012. Thereafter across all new passenger vehicles built as of November 2014 and yet motorists, and to some extend the motor trade, have little or no knowledge of this important technology and according to Andrew Page Limited it is important for garages to know how to deal with vehicles fitted with TPMS should they turn up in the workshop and require a tyre change.
In addition, there are plans to introduce the checking of TPMS into the MOT Test and it is, therefore, vital that garages are aware of the practices that should be adopted when replacing or repairing tyres. For many years, when replacing tyres or repairing punctures, standard snap in valves are replaced as a matter of course each time the tyre is demounted – in a sense this is an “insurance policy” as the valve is likely to have been in place for many thousands of miles and may have become time expired. In the case of a vehicle with TPMS, and having regard for cost implications, it is not practical to replace the TPMS sensors although other parts may need to be replaced.
To encourage best practice in the tyre bay and workshop Andrew Page Limited, the UK’s fastest growing motor factor, has introduced TPMS workshop and diagnostic tools together with a very useful and practical TPMS service kit containing all the parts and components necessary to undertake tyre replacement and repair on a TPMS equipped vehicle.
We are also making a special offer to customers with a TPMS diagnostic, tools and starter kit combo deal at only £995.00 plus VAT containing all the components and information required to undertake tyre replacement or repair on a wheel fitted with pressure monitoring.
